Clinical Psychology

Clinical psychology is the practice of supporting clients to enhance their psychological well-being. Clinical psychologists work with clients of all ages (from children and families to adults and the elderly) who are experiencing either mental or physical health difficulties that are negatively impacting their ability to get on with their day-to-day lives and reach their potential.

Clinical Psychologists can work independently or within the NHS. Clinical Psychology training provides a breadth of knowledge and skills in assessment, formulation (developing a shared understanding with the client about how the current “problem” arose and what is contributing to and maintaining the situation), and the delivery of evidence-based intervention. These skills are developed across years of training and post qualification practice.

Clinical Psychologists are regulated by the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Clinical psychologists are required to receive regular supervision of their work as well as to engage in continued professional development.
